After i saw the background and the picture of the Najo the first thing i thought about was racial bonuses and restrictions.
I think bonuses (attributes for example) has already been covered before but restrictions to certain things is what i'd like to see.

For example.. The Najo's wouldn't be able to wear specific equipment and weapons. Like they couldn't wear any axes but were very handy with swords. Giving a disadvantage and an advantage, encouraging people to be Sword-Dancers or alike as a Najo. Also they would have (as in the community poll) say 1 or 2 unique classes that would benefit from their advantages.
Say if they were faster then the default race, humans i suppose then a Sword-Dancer would be suitable for them since they are good with swords. Also the same with other races, they can't wear this or that but are effective with something else. Humans could wear anything but have no major effectiveness with weapons or armor.
Also they can't ride every mount wich one can see fit but are able to tame other mounts better then others. Just for an example.

What do you think about it?

Advantages suck. But different weapons sounds fine, as long as the other races have "as good" counterparts. Smile

I am not sure how we are handling this yet, but there is a big debate about it restricting rping and such... and personally I feel such races as the Najo and such should be better at specific classes and emphasize the use of those classes. Perhaps by limiting what weapons it can use.. it would limit what classes it use efficiently.

Thus if a Cleric uses a staff but the Najo race doesn't use staves.. its cleric is kinda stuck not being able to use his best weapon etc..

yes i know its almost the samething.. but how some of these races are coming out I think it may be necessary to have some race restrictions at least in regards to the classes it is most efficient at etc..

i could understand some armors not working, such as the najo not being able to wear a standard helmet, but wouldn't they have developed their own kind of armor? having some special armor taht najos can make that is najo specific. but i don't see how anything with opposable thumbs wouldn't be able to hold a weapon, unless some races don't have opposable thumbs, but then they wouldn't be able to hold ANYTHING. i don't like the idea of general weapons such as axes, swords, or staffs being unusuable by a race, but maybe have certain "special" items, taht can only be used by say 2 or 3 races, and not necessarily for humans. different standard equipment for different areas, like a cultural influence, i.e. curved swords in the middle east and flails in europe.

Then the devs will have to make a whole new set of armour specifically for 'em (and to be honest, i'm not sure thewreck could be arsed).

Well, they are infact ought to have some special armor since their discription says they customise it. Perhaps people are to volunteer and make some armor they would find suitable..

I imagine by the picture of the Najo that they are cunning, agile.. if they are then some light armor but strong, like scales would be fine for their own armor that only they can wear.
What i meant to say in the first post was that they are less effective with one weapon and more effective with the other. Not being able to use them could be rather to much. Creatures or humans learn to wield a weapon. If they never learned that, they might just stick it out the wrong way.. using it less effective. This is what i mean with the Najo.. maby they wouldn't have the knowledge of wielding a weapon wich the humans can but are able the wield a different weapon, they are more specialised in very effective. I'm only reffering to one weapon-type though. Doesn't have to arsenals of weapon types.

@Thanquol - for a 2d game thats not hard, all we do is add in attributes to the items and the race itself via coding. Detect to see if the race can use that piece of armor or weapon.. if not it won't equip it.
