Exactly, GF. A game is something that is supposed to challenge you and make you think. What would we call it if we told everyone what to do? A chatroom with people running around everywhere stabbing bunnies, that's what. I'm quite strongly for the side of keeping these things a secret. K.

What about another option?
Let's say it's secret for a year, and then a "thin" version of the rules are released, revealing all those rules that people has (or almost has) figured out already?

Hm that sounds cool. Maybe we can even make it a contest to see who can submit the best rules. Razz

Personally, I belive that yes the standard game mechanics in that sense should be given out, maybe a few numbers, but just the general jist of what is going on, thus speed up resonses from players. Also in this way im sure there will still be alot of trial and error on the players part on finding out what sort of weapons work with higher damage and such, for instance take this as an example

Elemental has 6 resistance to fire,
you use a weapon and notice no difference.
then you use a fire weapon and notice a difference of however the resistance is calculated.

So in short if you say how resistances are calculated vuagley it can still give people a wide scope but also help people understand what is going on..

Im not sure I am getting my point accross there, I will revisit this post with more of an explaination, I think.

atleast in the beginning that info wuld speed up balancing.
and there is nothing wrong with everyone knowing the same info that's balanced in the terms of knowlige.

I'll go with TbbW on this one. In the beginning it would be useful to balance things out, but I believe that later on it should be kept a secret.

I think the rules should be rather open. Half of the fun in a roleplaying game is to try building the perfect character, which is quite hard if you don't have anything o work with

I guess by this poll it's clear that we shouldn't release the rules. It's easier for us to change our minds and release them later, than to release them now and then make everybody forget later Wink

Hm to my eye the polls show it almost down the middle. But I guess releasing it later would satisfy everyone.

Yeah, the problem is that if we release the rules we can't change our minds later...

i find myself seeing both as useful depending on how you look at the game
as a tester the rules would help balance and bug identifing
as a ppl its more fun to find out on my own, part of the spice of any game
but as for the poll i go with keeping the rules in the hands of the dev
team i find it less important as to how a game works, and more important how it is played Wink
