We in the dev team are considering the option to let the game rules of Daria to be available to the public. The reason for this is,

1) It would allow everybody to understand how combat and similar stuff works, and take advantage of that knowledge instead of guessing.
2) It would make it a lot easier for everybody to help out in the balancing of the game.

The game rules would not contain any story information (such as quests and monster information), so there will still be a lot to explore. But of course there is a drawback as well. For some people it's half the fun to figure out combat calculations and to use that knowlegde in their advantage vs other players, so that's why I'm asking here for your opinion on the matter.

I'm one of those who think that it's half of the fun to figure out the gamerules of the game yourself, but that may just be me.

I'd like it better if the numbers were secret, I agree with Nexego.

Perhaps some of the information could be revealed in words (describing relations between different abilities etc.) instead of the acutal formulas.

atleast in the beginning that info wuld speed up balancing.
and there is nothing wrong with everyone knowing the same info that's balanced in the terms of knowlige.

I'll go with TbbW on this one. In the beginning it would be useful to balance things out, but I believe that later on it should be kept a secret.

The problem is that if we reveal it once, it will be revealed forever. That's the nature of online rpgs, information is usually easy to find once somebody has discovered it the first time.

Yeah. Also you've looked past that it would be extremely unfair to let the first players know everything while keeping the same information from new players.

I agree with larohr. To prevent the newbies that would come in later in the game from asking to many questions, rules should be posted. Not so much rules but a guide. You could even work it into the story line some how. I believe that when you start something, its best to have a little push than to walk around blind.

I think they should be kept a secret.
This makes the better players stand out.
Those who are willing to spend valuable levelling time testing various weapons and fluctuating damage on different creatures will know the game better and hence have better results in the game.
Also, it's good fun making up theories of how it all works.
I agree very much with those saying that it's half the fun.

The more there is to figure out in the game the more fun it is.

Exactly, GF. A game is something that is supposed to challenge you and make you think. What would we call it if we told everyone what to do? A chatroom with people running around everywhere stabbing bunnies, that's what. I'm quite strongly for the side of keeping these things a secret. K.
