One "medium" site. A good website design need not be bandwidth intensive, nor does a low-bandwidth design need to look cheap.

Why make website "toys" to play with when that is not the primary purpose of the website?

A game's website should:
1. Be functional
2. Convey its message (information) to the target audience
3. Be as inclusive as possible to as many internet users as possible/feasible
4. Look attractive, but not gaudy

If you MUST differentiate between a low and high bandwidth version of a site, chances are that the high-bandwidth version is overdoing it by a longshot. Take the best of both of them and make a single good one.

Always err on the low-bandwidth side, and question every element of a website as to its purpose. Ask questions like "Does this image contribute to the feeling I want the viewer to have when visiting?" and "Is it necessary or can I achieve this another way?"

The above is not only for game websites, but can be used as a general rule for most any website as well.

Check this website out. It has three styles you can choose, all nice and just variations of each other. Something like this for the Daria site wouldn't go amiss.[/url]

Nah, don't like that site. I wouldn't install their replacement for my native crappy win**** design =) But I guess it's not the point of discussion lol. So... Let's say we have one concept (idea) of a future design and by removing flash/images/etc or replacing them with html-based we get a light version. No need to create hundreds of styles (like on forums), just make a light version for dial-uppers or people with little traffic left till the end of the month Wink

I second Lorsaelos' complete post. For the record, I voted '1 medium.' I'm on dial-up, and you need to take into consideration load times, but can't feel hamstrung by it. Can do some pretty lightweight sites nowadays though...
