I think it would be sweet if the NPC's had a voice. Or just not all of the dialog but just the greeting.. If no one can do some voice acting, i might be useful on that.. Wether its a nordic barbarian or a cloaked rogue, i can do anything.
*steps towards Holger* "Aye lad, what can i do for ya ?" Wink

The thing about music played in towns would be fantastic. Only the towns would satisfy me, the rest could be a bit to much if you start to think realistic and wonder where its coming from.
Deep in the black marsh.. hearing the frogs sing. Aproaching an old shack and hearing someone playing a banjo.. hehe.

What, like Baldur's Gate where every fat man says,

"Hullo there, want a cup of fine ale?"

(Or some such shit.)

Anyway it really pisses me off and if i have to put up with the local tavern owner saying that every time i want a bed for the night i'll slit his throat.

You know, Thanq, there is an option to turn off character voices in BGII.

Having some NPCs with musical instruments would be brilliant, I'd really like to see that implemented, whether around towns or a more remote NPC playing a flute to pass the time.

Playing Sorcerer's music in the background to Akarra created a nice atmosphere, especially down in CC caverns where you could hear rain lashing outside or a rider trotting past on horseback.

yeah i know, but most people are more famillar with *.mp3 files.

I realy like most of those ideas, esspesially the music when in you're in the town at night. It won't be any musc on the days will it?. At east not the same music, pehaps some street musisian sitting in plaza playing some. Both NPC's and player's could sitt there and bytravellers could lend them a coin.
It would realy add some realism and fun to the game

Just some mild .ogg information. Unreal 2 uses .ogg for all it's sound/music/ambience. That's one of the reasons why it could be quite a lot smaller than it seems.

If there should be music.. shouldn't it be server side? Since its easy to edit .ogg and .mp3's a player would be able to swap the music with something else resembling the same name and then you would hear a NPC play pop or hiphop on a lute. Wink
Or of course you can have your own filetype, something uneditable by music programs..
