While we're on this - no disagreements, by the way - make the /ignore command ignore all messages from the selected player... including public ones.

On the topic of anti-spam, it could always be a system like you can only send 1 global message every 30 seconds (the period can be tweaked) or make the message use up some stamina or something so people cant efficiently spam in the first place - less need for ignore

Just look at quake 2. Customizable flood_msgs command, after x number of messages in a short time the server silences you for 10 secs. I like the system alot, though sometimes when I type fast enough it silences me. I know this isn't the best possible way but hey, there's no 100% spam-proof system.
Except active admins. :I

I think there is definitly something good here. Perhaps spamming could affect your hp. So for each time you repeat something more than three times, your health could decrease by 10% as a penalty. Problems i can see with this is that people might use it as a way to self-destruct and head back to their spawn point, (hey... that could be a spell or a command tho, type in the magic words and *poof* you're dead and convieniently beside your chosen ob) or that it wouldn't be *too* effective for a spammer standing beside, say, an ob in the middle of the town he is spamming, because even if he dies, he can continue to spam. If loosing coins is a penality of death, as it was in Akarra, then perhaps it would at least stop some of the worst offenders.
Alternativly, it could be that players have a certain amount of controll over each other. If we had a command such as /shutup <name> and 20 (or whatever amount you think) incidents of this are noticed by the server in a short space of time, the spamming player could be automatically silenced for a short time. Possible abuses of that could be silencing the leader of the opposing clan during clan war, or groups of people using it to bully non-spammers. Which would acutally be horrible. But perhaps someone might get inspiration from these ideas and be able to find a way to make them workable.

(Heh, instead of having the server flooded with spam, we could have it flooded with /shutup messages. Sad So many flaws in my suggestions.)

The memories: I remember in WiA, Putting my default chat to /f then leaving my Fs going to hope talking and wondering why it wouldn't show up so I started messaging admins asking why they muted me(good times).

Anyways on Topic: Ya I think it would be a good idea.
