I think a sundial is a fantastic idea, even if it is just a stationary object in each town or village, rather than an icon on the screen. That kind of technology would certainly have been available in the sort of setting that games like this have. Possibly a stone circle would be even more fitting, and could be a nice feature in the landscape. I wonder how difficult that would be to implement? It could be as easy maybe, just an animated shadow that slowly changes position...

Sand timers are another possibility, but i suggest that they could be items that could only be used by characters standing still/idling, so that the sand would not be disturbed.

Other ways that the time was told before clockwork were biological, things like the activities of birds and animals, and what flowers were opening and closing. There is some information, discard or use at will. ^^

Totally what I was thinking. One of the screenies showed an obelisk. Hello! That'd be really great, turn them into sundials also.....

Alternatively, a little dial on the GUI would be nice also, but there is a certain n'est pas about not really knowing the time..

Sundials are a stellar idea though.

Just a small symbol to show a rotating plate with the sun on one side and the moon and stars on the other

Good idea, a small circle with the sun and moon rotating.
(Same idea as the one from the windwaker and warcraft3:D )

Heres a pic of the windwaker one:

(its mid-day so it shows a full sun)

not a bad idea the sun dial thing, to be honest, i would prefer some kind of clock in game, i say this because you may be setting off for some kind of treck across daira and you my be more voulnerable at dark, with an ingame clock you would know how long you have until nightfall and could make your decision whether or not to risk your ass on a long trudge whereas you could wait a little longer and have a risk free journey

For people who dont like the idea of having an icon sundial and just a sundial in town, then why cant you buy sundial from a npc so you can carry it around.

Well if your going to be able to buy it everyone will have one, so we might aswell just start with them......unless they were really expensive like the equivalent of 1gc or something.

Interesting thoughts.

@Enquillion - the minimap is simply there for convenience.. it simulates the player has some sort of map of the known world. I am not familiar with how Akarra's map worked itself.. but in general its just to simulate a player having a map.

I will make a note of this as a possible future feature.. but it is definently not on the priority list of changes and adjustments of features etc..
