I thought about the crafting in WiA
An idea i got :
The Blacksmith has some guests (a 2nd npc next to the smith) at a certain time another npc visits his old friend the blacksmith

--> The blacksmith now offers a 6th crafting field (one more then usualy)
--> Special combinations are only possible while he has a guest ( only with the help of the 2nd npc)
--> He just offers some exotic equipment the npc has brought to him
--> A new quest or a special quest is availible and must be finished before the guest has left
--> The blacksmith is bussy and does not much buisness
--> ... things I haven't thought about yet

What about drafts/designs you need to show the smith to unlock a craft combination ?
(maybe only for a special one) could be combined with a quest and depending on whats shown on the paper (diffrent quests)...

It's just like the Render of Flesh and his Demonstones. People needed them for quests, people camped him.

The only difference is that these quests probably don't require 5 to 10 highbies to complete. But still, camping issue.

mhm true you need to wait till the one arrives but what if there is something to be done to have the npc visiting the Blacky maybe noone knows what to be done ... maybe the visitor npc needs to get sold a special item then after a few nights he starts a journey so noone knows becauze of what he started the journey ... or something like that .... just think of it ...

Camping would be a issue, definitely. Maybe, have a system whereby people who stay in the shop for longer than a length of time (variable), their chance of finding the item they wish to would diminish. Or maybe those who 'talk' to the NPC more and quickly would have less chance of finding rarer items..

Thats an awsome idea, the camping issue will go away if there were to be alot of quests, or a number of ways to complete each quest. A time limit on the quest would help also. Perhaps it costs something to intiate quest?

That's a really good idea! Would def. help immersive gameplay and more unique experiences for the players.

Might I suggest that this happens for more than one NPC? Maybe some NPC's will be sick one day, out of town.. ect. Would add a bit of randomization to the whole quest mix that even the dev's may have not intended Very Happy

Maybe if the blacksmith is "out of town" one day, the next day he'll be back with a nice collaberation of exotic weaponry!

sick...
illness...
imagine a hole town suffers under diseases
--> none of the nps follows his normal buisness Very Happy
but back to topic:

what if an npc starts "every week" (or at any other random time) a journey. He waits till he's "sold out" and closes his store, leaves a messages for his customers (us) and moves to another npc
This is not forced to give a quest just some diffrents in the daily merchants buissness. Anoying for those who need the npcs job but wasn't is fun and his style (like eckard in WiA) Smile

Might take him a while to be sold out of the really crappy stuff. Every NPC that sells stuff has something crappy that no one buys. And it would be really bad if every NPC only had his crappy stuff just waiting to be sold out so he can go on his journey, but it takes months for some newbs to come buy him out of his crappy stuff.
