I'm suprised no one suggested/asked about this yet.

There should be 8-directional animated sprites.

Yes, yes, it's was rather boring to see a sprite just float across the map in Akarra. Let's see some fancy-smancy improvements in Daria, if we can.

No! Then it will lose the feel of the old game... Unless they want to change everything they can from Akarra... I liked it. I like the way it was, and I hope it remains. If it changes, before you know it, the game will be down for another year so they can make an entirely isometric 3d engine. My philosophy is: Less time on graphics, more time on the things that MATTER (Gameplay, quests, battle system, drop system, skills system, etc.)

I vote NAY to this.

Those graphics kept the game unique. I liked the simplicity of Akarra. A gimmick is better than something half-assed.

Enquillion and Boddah are right. Akarra looked more beautifully unique with non-moving sprites. You know when you're playing Akarra. I'd like the same to apply to Daria.

Nobody's asking for a super special 3D isometric engine here. Just different spites depending on which direction you're facing. I don't see how that would warrant a complete overhaul of the game engine, but if it did, I say the wait would be all the better.

Is this important to the game itself? No. But while we talk about music, sound, and atmospheric effects both visual and audio and all manner of these things, it IS the nicities that help the game have a better effect on us. Otherwise, we'd all be perfectly happy playing a MUD and wouldn't want Daria to become more than a text adventure.

So, yes, there is a balance that can be found.

If someone would show me how to make them compatable with DoD, and exactly what should be drawn, I wouldn't mind making them...

Dawn of daria will NOT feature 8 direction walking / attacking whatever sprites.

why?

this is completely personal and might not be the ultimate truth, but I value looking unqiue as an avatar more highly then seeing yourself run in different directions.

the weighoff here is basically, either different equipment looks different, or all stuff in the game looks exactly the same and we spend time making the charachter moving in 8 directions and walking, attack whatever.

two scenarios:

lots of varied charachters floating around

everyone looks the same, but they run around.



and hey. look at civilisation I & II, they didnt need fancy gfx and they were Ace.

besides, i think, leaving animations out gives more room for imagination. Cause if we add like, walking. then it would look crazy if they were fighting without animations (cause we couldnt imagine he was fighting, cause we accually see that he is standing still). And if we add that, it will look crazy if they sleep without lying down. and if we add that, it will look crazy if the person blocks without animation. and this will go on until the apocalypse...

I believe thewreck had a huge rant about making 8 directional sprites - the work load is multiplied immensely. Khaile also ranted about this on IRC. Opinion on this still hasn't changed.
