Well, the idea behind cross-classing is that versatile characters are as useful as specialized ones - which is, alone, a feat of balancing. |

So what if we give certain races bonuses for using more 'aligned' classes with their race (what their race is good at) and give them small penalties for using a class that doesn't blend/work well with that race?

Just give a race the slightest advantage towards a class and people will use that combination. If you give Najans +1 to damage with swords, and someone (using a sword) loses a fight where the enemy has 1 hit point left, he'll have wished he picked Najo. All advantages are advantages, only the significance differs. _________________ The next Alpha will have plazas! |

The idea of weird race/class combinations is finding a way to make your character as useful as others. An orc mage may not be as powerful as an elven one, but heck if you're going to try to get near that spell-casting meatshield...
Same for, say, a halfling paladin (I'm using well-known races, sue me if you want, I don't have a copper anyway =P ). He might not be all that uber-strong, but he can throw rocks, cook for the party and be stealthy... You just need imagination and a good dose of well-thought balancing. |

I agree with Kal, some races should have better atributes since all of them are not the same. |

Problem with this is that these things cause balancing. Never ending balancing, and then devs get busy with balancing and don't give as much content into the game. :/ |

I liked the way how it was in WiA maybe more to choose and more diffrents between the classes (ablility to become master in one or more skill"s"/...) |

Classes shouldn't become too strict that there leaves no room for originality with character making. I would prefer to have a little mix of a lot of things in my character that make it "mine" as opposed to having every other fighter character all striving for the same thing.
Weapons shouldn't strictly dictate the character's class either, or vice-versa.
Character classes should be mostly a rank within a specialized field of training. Skills learned should determine who and what the character can be or do. |
